Charlottesville VA Children’s Photographer | Easter Chicks and Ducks

Danielle and I tend to dream up these semi elaborate ideas for shoots with our kids and our vision for Easter photos was no exception. I cannot tell you how many conversations we had about exactly what clothing our kids would be wearing for these pictures. I tend to be slightly indecisive when it comes to clothing options for my boys because I want it to be just right. Exactly what I have pictured in my head. And that can some times be a problem unless I’m making the outfits myself. This has been known to happen but I was just too busy. So I started talking to my friends about it, which I’m sure was riveting conversation for them. Slowly people started dropping comments about how cool it would be if we offered these sessions to other people and so we decided to try out some Easter mini sessions. Honestly we thought that maybe five or six people would want to partake but we were blown away when, within just a week of making our announcement, we had thirteen sessions booked!

The Wednesday before the Easter sessions were to take place, I heard it was going to rain all weekend. I am a worrier so every hair on my body stood on end. We would only have once chance at a rain date if we had to reschedule and that terrified me. What were we going to do with the chicks and ducks for a whole extra week?! I immediately began checking my Weather Channel app on my phone ever thirty minutes and texting Danielle an update. I’m pretty sure she wanted to punch me in the face after the first day, but, hey, that’s how I roll.

I wake up Saturday morning and what do I see to my horror? Rain!!! How appropriate that it’s a four letter word. We quickly came up with an alternate game plan and emailed all our sessions with the rain plan. I prayed the entire hour drive out to Danielle’s house. And the entire time we were setting up. And while we waited for our first client to show up. Thank you sweet Jesus that by the time he arrived it was barely misting! The sun was out by the third session and all was well in the world.

Our chicks and ducks were good for the most part. They kept the poo to a minimum and only terrified a few kids. Job well done animals! Noah wished that we could keep them forever but they are loving their new farm lives.

Meridith and Tyler | A VMI Wedding Part One

Meridith and Tyler are such a cute couple. They went to high school together although they didn’t find each other until her Sophomore year of college. Apparently there was some debate amongst Tyler’s friends as to whether or not Meridith was an actual person because for quite some time all the evidence they had was Tyler talking to her on the phone. However, once they finally met her, they all knew Tyler and Meridith were perfect for each other because they have the same goofy, sometimes crazy personalities. And I do believe Meridith stole at least one of Tyler’s friends for her own. The wedding was beautiful, Meridith was absolutely gorgeous, and there were many tears of happiness. I’d call that a complete success.

Meridith and Tyler, you guys were a blast. You kept us on our toes and it was awesome. I think deep down Danielle was even wanting to shake her groove thing with you. Congratulations!

Let’s Do 52! Week Nine | Framed

I was walking up the stairs on Sunday, and Sam and the boys were working on raising the mattress is Adalyn’s bed. Actually, Sam was working on the bed, while the boys were scattering every single piece of a tool they could find. I loved the way the boys were framed up in her doorway, so I grabbed the camera and started shooting. After all, this week’s theme is “Framed” Once the bed was ready, I put in my girl to test it out. And I saw her all framed up in the bed, so I grabbed the camera and started shooting! I can’t decide which set of images I like better, so I’m posting them both:)

Let’s Do 52 | Simple

It’s the simple things in life that make Lucas the most happy these days. He has to have his banana in the morning or he becomes very vocal and cranky. He will be such a pistol until the minute he sees you grab that banana and knife. On our last trip to Sam’s Club, Noah picked out Nilla wafers as his treat. Lucas quickly discovered their deliciousness and loves to have two or three after his nap. He will sit SO quietly and SO contently for about thirty minutes just making a terrible mess with those things. So what’s a momma to do? Grab your camera of course! I LOVE my new macro lens. The shot of his open mouth with his cute little lips. My favorite by far. Sorry about the food in his mouth but, you know, it’s real life.

Joseph and I had a day out at the children’s museum for his third birthday, and they had some new toys. He absolutely LOVED these block-car hybrids. I told his Aunt B about them, and wha-la…a few days later, Joseph had a package in the mail. Even Sam likes them because the wheels go super fast! They are such a cool, super simple concept…and Joseph gets some simple play time. No brother, no fighting, no superheros…just Joseph and his cars.

Ten Minutes, a Hat, a Wire Basket, and a Baby

A few weeks ago Danielle did a ten minute shoot with her family so I decided to follow suit and see how many different pictures I could get of Lucas in ten minutes. I’ve had this wire basket for months now and just haven’t had the chance to use it. I bought it with the intention of doing a shoot with Lucas in the basket. I wanted to do some when he was younger but for one reason or another it just didn’t happen.

On this particular afternoon, Noah happened to be taking a nap, which is extremely rare these days, the weather was crazy warm for the time of year, and there was about a 2 foot wide strip of gorgeous light down the middle of my backyard. It was now or never.

There was laughter, there were tears, there was major drool, and there were doggie kisses. It was fabulous.
