I’ll admit it…I hate being in front of the camera. It’s much easier to be on the other side snapping away. So, I wasn’t super-thrilled when I read that this week’s challenge was to get myself in the frame. Adalyn was about to get a bath a few nights ago, and she was so happy just to be chatting away with me…her silly, ol’ momma. It ain’t always gonna be that way. One day, she’ll be a teenager, and I was a teenage girl once. I know she probably won’t always like me. I was getting way ahead of myself and thinking about 13 years down the road, and Job walked in. “Whatcha doin’?” And he said it just like Candice from Phineas & Ferb too. I asked him if he’d like to take a few pictures, and he agreed to help me out. I sat the camera on the bed, adjusted the settings, pointed my flash so it would bounce nicely off the wall, switched the lens to manual focus, focused on Adalyn, then jumped back in the frame to play with her. Job snapped while I played. So, the shots aren’t perfect, but I love them anyway. My girl is smiling at me, and my boy snapped the shots.

Saturday, January 21st, 2012One of the things I want to remember most about Noah when he’s older is how much he loved his cars. They go everywhere and drive on anything. He will lay on the floor and play for endless amounts of time imagining up stories so long as I am with him. There always seem to be explosions and roll overs but the cars live on. I hope he never loses that wonderful imagination.

Monday, January 16th, 2012This week I chose responsibility as my subject. My original plan was to use a tripod to get a shot of me with both of my boys that would convey my responsibility for them. Yeah, in what dream world was I actually going to be able to make that happen?
About mid week, I noticed that Lucas’s room was getting a lot of nice natural light around 1:00 pm and I wanted to try to take some photos of him in his crib. I was planning to experiment with different shooting angles so I moved all the furniture around in his room so I could get his crib at a nice 45 degree angle to the light. Isaac could not have looked at my like I was a more insane person. I got everything all set up and Lucas just cried and cried when I put him in the crib. That drew Noah’s attention, and the next thing I know I’m hoisting Noah up into the crib. Lucas stopped crying and so I let it be. As I was standing there watching them and snapping away, I heard Noah comfort Lucas, saw him show him how to turn his mobile on, and listened to him jabber away at his brother.
That’s when I realized that Noah had truly fallen into his role as big brother. He protects Lucas when we’re around other people, jumping at the chance to tell them not to touch Lukee. He brings Lucas toys to play with. He giggles and makes Lucas laugh. He makes sure other kids treat Lucas nicely. And most importantly, he shares his lovey with Lucas. And if you knew how much Noah loves his loveys then you know that it huge.
A few other shots that I love.
